i was detecting on Naval air station Pensacola and i found this lodged in a piece of wood. I think it is a bullet, but I am not sure. its about an inch and a half long .:?:

Looks to me like maybe a 50 cal. Here's an image for size reference.

To my eyes (and based on the size compared to the fingers) that looks smaller than a .50 cal. I'd guess .30 caliber full metal jacket. Could be military, could not.

I looked some up on line and there is a .30-03 government
 
Not a 50 cal for sure. Without knowing the dimentions very hard to guess. Could be a 30-06 or anything. For sure a rifle or machine gun bullet but NO idea what it came from.
 
There are several .30 caliber (7.62 mm) military rounds. The 30-06 and then the .308 used to be standard military rounds before 60's. They are also common in civilian use. I wouldn't research it too hard because there are probably millions of these things out there. It's still cool to find any bullet in my opinion :D
