Hellow, My name is Richard and I live in a area of Biloxi known as Woolmarket MS. which is about 15 minutes drive from Biloxi Beach.
I am 48 years old and have been married for 27 years. I also have a daughter that is 21.
I work for the Biloxi School system for 25 years now and am over Transportation Vehicle Maintence. We maintain 50 School Buses and about 50 other school trucks and other equipment.
My Dad was retired Airforce and started MD,ing in 1981 with my older brother Mike. 10 years and many good finds later he went to Jewelry school and then ran his own Jewelry buisness out of his home for 18 more years. This inspiration came from MD'ing.
My Father died at 75 right before Hurricane Katrina. I had a house built for Mother and my older mentally challanged Brother Mike on my property too keep them close by so me and my familly can watch over them.
I have had very many hobbies over my life and have kept some and let others go. I have always been into cars, Being my carrier is in the mechanic profession. I have owned a 1971 Buick GS from when I was 19 years old. Currently I am doing a frame off restoration.
Several months ago I started fixing up dads old detectors. All 3 are in good working order now. A Whites Coinmaster 6000D and 2 Garrett Seahunter XL500 models. Also I have a new Pinpointer and Pouch along with all the other required tools. Also I Have read the old Manuals and been practicing on my land and at one of the Schools. I also have permission to search all 9 Biloxi School propertys.
Any way, I really like this forum. I have looked over some others and this one just looks right to me. Looking forware to getting to know you all, and hopfully I will have some good finds to post for you soon. If not I can post some great finds of my dads for your enjoyment.

Thanks, Richard

I also was at Keesler AFB -- until Hurricane Camille came in and wiped things out. Welcome to the forum from NC.

I also spent a year at Keesler - 1959-1960. Tech school was tough, but I made it through.

Welcome to the forum from E. Tennessee.

Thanks,

Thanks, I'm what you might call a Military brat, I guess ? Dad was first base Inspector then Deputy Base Comander at KAFB untill his heart attack at the age of 45 and retired in 1978.
Also I do plan on doing a post later showing some of dads finds. If anyone else reads this post stationed at KAFB in the mid 70's, My dad was
Col. Richard N. Davis.
Thanks again, Richard...

I spent a very nice week's vacation in Biloxi, MS a few years back, before Katrina came thu....can you tell me this.....Did any of Jeff Davis Museum and home survive? Also, the Sea Museum...don't remember the actual name, but the one that held so many classes for school students annually, my son went there and throughly enjoyed it...is it still operational?

And finally, how many of the seafood restuarants survived or rebuilt so far? I would love to come down there, eat seafood and spend my days hunting on the beaches!:lol:

Hello from Winston Salem North Carolina.

My mom lives in Biolxi and my brother lives in Diberville.
I've visited there quite a bit.

I wonder what it would be like detecting down along the coast in Gulfport where Katrina hit. Lots of sand and the remains of building foundations when I was there after the storm. (near the casinos)

Welll as for the Jefferson Davis home not all, but some was a total loss. I think one building is gone totally. The story goes they found on of Jeffersons wifes dresses wraped around an oak tree. Now they have rebuilt the main house and its back open. As for the Seafood Musium it was a total loss. They started over in a new location I hear. But I have not went to look at it. Both were asking for donations when rebuilding including relics for the times. As for restraunts everything on the beach was a total loss. only lone slabs remain. There has been much rebuilding on the beach here and there, But with insurance rates there fewer. White cap restraunt is open on Gulfport beach, as for seafood. If you really want to eat good, The Casinos have pleanty. Come on down.

I went to the beach 2 weaks ago for an hour test run first time out. FOUND LOTS OF TRASH. Including a hotel room number black and brass door plate. #1304, I THINK. I would have to check. People lost alot of personal items when the surg came in. Im sure with time and patience theres treasures too be found.

Hi Richard,
Welcome to the forum. I stayed awhile in Biloxi, namely Kessler AFB some few years ago, 1968. Wish I had a machine then!

Welcome Richard, I too work for a school, who'd you ask for permission? Supt? Principals? I was wanting to MD our properties.

Personally, I would NOT ask the principals. They are over Teachers and students. I asked the head of school Bulding and grounds maintenance. Which he is good friends with the sup. Everyone in the system knows him and he is well liked. As for having the ultimate permission you could ask the sup. Make sure you explane to him exactly how your going to do it and they will see no signs of digging. Also that your not going to do it during school hours. It also would help if he likes you. LOL
