I need some knowledge from someone who knows what this is. I just bought an Old Garrett Groundhog in mint condition. In the bottom of the box, when I got home, was this handheld metal detector. It is from the Maytronics Corporation. It is called the Pocket Prospector Metal Detector. I did a Google search, and I can't find a thing on it other than the patent for it expired in 1976, so it is pretty old. I have no instructions, etc. Seems to work perfectly, but difficult to say when you don't know what it is. Anyone ever seen one?? Know how to use it?? HELP!

Actually, I thought it might be an old body scanner too, but can't make sense out of the dial on the bottom....... How would that apply to a body scanner?

Well, it is a gold prspecting "pinpointer". The patent started in 1976 and died in 1982. I would assume you would get a a bucket or pan of sand/gravel and run this loop through it and it would beep if there was anything there.

Just a guess of course.

Maytronics Pocke Prospector

The pocket prospector was made by Maytronics in Colorado Springs CO in the early 70s. They made light boxes, color organs and strobe lights for discos and home use. Metal detectors were added to the product line near the end of existance. You could buy these products out of the JC Penny catalog. I worked for them as a repair tech when I was going to engineering school in late 60s early 70s. Brings back memories of the old days

The name itself, "Pocket Prospector" sounds a bit naughty, like an old 70's porn film!!

Wow, thanks. That's about the most I have learned about it since I posted this. Can't find anything on the net about it anywhere. It is in excellent condition, and works perfect (at least as I can tell..... :)
