I spent another 3 1/2 hours at the same site as the other day where I found some really cool stuff. Today was not as exciting but I did find my 2nd ever coal mine script, a 1922 Wheatie, some kind of lens, maybe old camera, a headstamp sold by Western Auto (yes, that Western Auto) ..... in the 50’s they sold shotgun shells and even guns made for them by other manufacturers. Plus, 8 or so other headstamps and three horseshoes and 6 or so pieces of horseshoe. Also a small pick/hammer combo tool.
The script is from a coal camp called Whitby. Whitby is a 5 mile run (one of my many hobbies is trail running) from my house through the woods on old roads and trails. There’s not much there today. The company was Sterling Smokelss Coal which closed down in the 50’s
Pictures below
Thanks for looking,
Charles

Coal script is a very neat find. Think about the coal miner who lost that. Worked in very dangerous conditions and lost part of his pay. My dad was paid in script and i was born in a coal company house.

Yes,they used it on all their firearms, mostly 22 rimfires and shotguns as well as ammunition,if I remember right also fishing gear too.

Cpack found a 100 yr old GoPro!

Hey, man... Check the micro SD card!
See if there's any vintage photos on there from the Roaring Twenties! :giggle:

(Neat finds, dude! Clean that place out. There's gotta be more...)
