I went out today to a place I have been many times, ive had good luck there, its where I found my first (and only) 1907 morgan half dollar. I returned there this morning and was already out for 4 hours with little to show.... a hunting trap, completely steel pabst blue ribbon beer can and of course a toy car (tootsie toy el-camino vintage) I was pretty far into the woods and far from any path so thought it best to turn around and head back but making sure I cover new territory.

as I was hiking over and under tree limbs trying to keep my balance I heard a beautiful sound... a hit, loud and definite, the signal was anywhere from a dime to a dollar with a welcome high pitch. I brushed the leaves from the strike zone to see a partial handle tucked safely in the dirt. in hopes of it being a sword I was sure to pull the handle straight out towards me...
a sword indeed!!!

from the little research I have done so far, I have found a Patriarchs Militant Fraternal Sword, the society started in the 1840's the condition is a bit rough but no telling how long its been sleeping in the woods.

this is by far the most exciting find yet!!!

I would be still shaking from something like that and you couldn't cut the smile off my face. Congrats

thanks all, I still cant believe it!!! wish I could remove the sword from its sheath but it may be on for good, wont risk damaging it...

I'm thinking of giving this o the local historical society, what do you think? BUT after reading all your thoughts, I'll take a deep breath and hang on to it for now

Man.. I love that sword.. I can't imagine finding something like that...Congrats

Congratulations, that may be the coolest thing you ever find! Personally I like the idea of giving it to the local museum once you find out more about it through research
