Recently designed this shaft for the DF. As usual the behind the elbow mount was troublesome. Mounting 1 thing designed for 1" onto something 1/2 the size can be a real pain.
Every section had to be under 950mm, able to fit into a suitcase, and strong enough to take a pounding...... easy to use and setup.:shock:
Its much harder to do than it sounds.
Product wise I think I've got it down now. Took a few prototypes and some feedback though. Financially its a train wreck :no:

After this project, and a few others, I must say the Anderson shafts are actually reasonably priced. Considering eBay and Paypal fees.
All these parts are delrin/polycarbonate/reinforced and custom made. A real treasure chest drainer.

Yeah...Nice looking there Steve! I bet you sunk some money in the R&D!

I've been thinking of fabbing up a shaft that has an oval cross section sort of along the same concept as a canoe paddle. Not as wide of course...maybe 2.5"wide with a 5/8 to 3/4 thickness...with a groove in it to tuck the coil wire into....The idea being its very easy to swing a canoe paddle through the water sideways...so a shaft thusly constructed should be as well..

I've poled/rowed/paddled boats all my life, and even a nice round pole has a lot of side water resistance....an oval on the other hand, tapered on the sides like a paddle, has about none! I guess even a just a lower shaft built like this would be a potential seller to waders....that water resistance sure can kill a elbow if a guy tries to force it.....:?:

This is exactly the kind of thinking that the actual COMPANIES that design & make the detectors should be exploring!

Well yeah, I'm always having ideas!...:laughing:..If they just made them for the AtPro waders, called them the "paddlefish" sold them for $50...just the lower portion mind you...just pop it in and go...yep..they would sell...

I gotta nother idea called RINGSTAR...its like a Coinstar machine, only for gold rings..you drop your ring in, the machine weighs and tests it with an XRF, Then the machine is uplinked to the live gold price....and gives you 15% less!.....its a sound concept...every Casino would have one!:laughing:

The shape isn't really feasible. Any crosscurrent or getting hit by a wave with the shaft broadsided will rip that baby right out of hands. Will spend the next 3 hours looki g for it tossed up on shore or taken out to the deep end.... If you look at something like a soap bubble.. it always wants to return to it's strongest form/shape... a perfectly round bubble.
As for your other idea. I'm in the process of making it happen. I've gone as far as make a prototype already. I will do my best to send you 1 for the ATPro to try out.

When I saw the ctx and atx shafts I couldn't believe it. This should give you a general idea which way the manufacturers are leaning towards. Big, heavy, and cost efficient in mass production. A successful high profit business model.

You should see the streets of Macao around the casinos. Store.after store of pawned rings, million dollar watches, and 2lb 24k necklaces. The top stores have diamond rings sitting in the window worth more than a large house.
