Found this oval thing at an old home site. The back is flat - no writing that I can see. No indentations or attachments. Front has grooves as you can see.

It's an old site - found a nice flat button, but can't make out the words on the back. Penny for size.

Hi RF1,

Your guess is as good as mine regarding that grooved artifact. I wouldn't immediately consider it "junk" Is it Copper? Might be a beat-up coin. Unknown purpose.

Found a 'grooved-up' copper disc at a late-1700's/early-1800-'s site. There are still some faint markings that suggest it was a coin. It has three square holes on its perimeter -- possibly punched with a square nail. It is about the diameter of a modern quarter... A mystery.

Cheers,
--Bert

I am going to look at it again for any markings. I am not sure what it is made out of - it's pretty rough. But, the surface is similar to some rough wheaties I've dug, so could be copper. I like your mystery item - thing looks old!
