Out with Zeemang the morning hunting one of our regular sites. Found a silver ring and a 3 ring bullet with the brass. I have never found the brass for these bullets before.

Nice hunt , relics and silver . Is there any marking left on the bullet case
HH

That brass is a 22 rim fire case. LOL way way way common.

Umm you are right. That is WAY too big for a 22!! Should have looked at the quarter!

Nice hunt

A couple of pictures that give you an idea of size.

LOL ok so I MIGHT be a little off!! Or a lot! Look at the end. NOW it looks like a 45/70. The end should have letters top and bottom and numbers left to right.

Thanks for the ruler picture!

If you can read the numbers and letters I can give you a whole lot of information on the case. It might not be a 45/70 but it sure looks like one.

Bottom is unmarked. I have not found many shell casings without marks.

Well I have to say, now I am stumped. I also haven't found many unmarked rifle cases. I doubt it is a 45/70. BUT to tell you for certain what it is, isn't going to happen from me anyway.

Thanks for the pictures. It also seems shorter than a standard rifle case. BUT again, I am looking at a picture and not holing the actual round. Hope you get an answer. Thanks for sharing.

Being it is only 2 1/2" long I wonder if it is an antique 50 cal or 45 cal pistol bullet.

Looks just like a few of mine I have found and can't get an ID on. Very nice finds!!!

Here's mine on the right. A tad different, but not much. And a huge round.....

Nice finds there, 45 70 was my first thought too, BIG bullet and to find the brass was weird. Gotta figure out where we can go next week...

Well for fun, I just looked at my two live 45-70's. They are 2 and a half inches long also. They were made in 1886. You can google the 50-70 bullet which was made in 1873 and later. Very good chance it is older and larger.

So I am going to go back to my original thought. 45-70 or possible 50 cal but you said they were not .5 inches.

Did a very careful measurment 14mm which = 55 cal. That is one big bullet.

For sure.

Well you have two choices 50-70 and 577 Snyder that look like the cartridge you have listed. If it is the 577 Snider, too bad your case is ruined. Looks like a rare one.

The 577 Snider bullet was 14.5 mm and British. Since you are in Canada, a very good possibility.

The slug weights in at 30 grams so it may well be a .577 Snider. Thanks for the help.
