Scuba,

You said that the bottom is hard packed gravel. So why do you think the coins have sunk so far down in this hard pack gravel and not stayed at a more reasonably depth? Do you see this at other lakes with gravel? I can understand with rivers and creeks that the movement of water can push the gravel around but in a lake I would not think it would have as much effect unless you are getting a huge wave action.

This is a strange place. NO idea when the gravel got hard packed but in some places it seemed to move in and pack where I need a knife to dig through it. Then I have more lose stuff and the old coins.

This place was last used in 1963. 55 years ago. With the current in the river gravel and sand moved all the time before the muck and weeds grew over it.

I don't see this anywhere else. Never in lakes. This is a river I am detecting. It is the Detroit River.
