That looks like a button I found, this ones the size of a penny.

Someone said the those divots may have held stones or jewels.

Looks like yours has 13 stars, and 13 divots, nice find!

I count 14... so maybe or maybe not patriotic... of course VT was the 14th in 1791, but the 'stars' aren't exactly stars... hard to say! 1/2 button probably is a safe guess...

Hard to say, Im no expert on buttons, but by the design Id say 1860's to 1880's
