Hello all...dug these two at the same old home site a few weeks ago...1851 US 3-Cent and unknown coin...someone thought it was cool to drill holes in them and use them as pendants I guess judging by the holes and wear on the 3-cent piece...I think the date on the large coin is 1879?? Unfortunately the hole in the 3-Cent is right through the mint mark...

Back in the day, people did not have pockets so it was common to "hole" the coins and string them together.
I guess come folks would stitch them into their clothing also, so as not to lose them:yes:

...I tumbled the unidentified coin and now can read 1879 on the front...back I can make out Conste' De...looks like it may be a Spanish 5 or 10 cent coin made 1877-1879...
