Just a "heads up" for those hunters who may not know, there is often (but not always) a Karat mark or Hallmark on an ear-ring post that can be so tiny as to go unseen unless a strong magnifier is used!

This one is fairly easy to see, but I have another that is 10K and so faintly marked I had to use very strong magnification to see it and couldn't get a photo because of its small size.

I have an easier way to tell if it's gold. I have my wife wear it for a couple of hours since she's allergic.

My wife has never been able to ware yellow gold either. causes infection in her ears via the piercing holes. White gold or sterling no problem.

Not an uncommon condition I'm told.

That is why a silver ring with a huge stone in it may be a diamond and should be checked!!

Its most likely the nickel or other metal it's alloyed with that she is allergic to. Nickel allergy is quite common.
