Let’s see your favorite finds this year. Mine is a tossup between this 15g platinum ring I dug at a park and the 1876 love token dug on my back hillside. Sold the ring but the coin ain’t going anywhere lol.

Well without a doubt my favorite is this antique Scottish medallion.

It was a Kellyco Find of the Week, a Vaughn Garrett Find of the Month, full page articles on it were published in Treasure Hunter (UK), Archeology and Metal Detecting Magazine ( Scotland) and American Digger ( also on cover) as well as 2 newspapers.

It is heavily engraved with numerous Scottish icons, phrases and mottos ( including the past and present mottos of MY family. The present one was bestowed by Robert the Bruce after an ancestor finished off John “Red” Comyn in the Greyfriers Church after Bruce had wounded Comyn ( Bruce insisted they go in unarmed to discuss terms for one of them to become King. A church was supposed to be a safe place but Bruce produced a dagger and wounded Comyn then fled. Kirkpatrick returned and completed the job). Eight days later Bruce was crowned King.
There is also the date August 23, 1299 and the initials WW. The many historians I consulted with agree the initials are William Wallace ( Braveheart) and the date reflects the date of his execution but the year is wrong.

When I found this it was entombed in hard dried mud and I thought it was a can lid and nearly threw it away. Luckily I decided to clean it.

This medallion was such an awesome find! The history, and the family connection to you; the finder, are just amazing!
I still think that hand is holding a metal detector on the reverse.

Here’s my two favorites...

My favorite finds this far this year have been the 3 biggest surprises. A Civil War Infantry Officers button that I dug in downtown Salt Lake City Utah. Another head scratcher were these 7 Eisenhower dollars in one hole. :?:
And this sheild nickel, my oldest American dug coin.

This 13.7g gold nugget (my biggest so far) which I found a few months ago in the goldfields.

Another favourite would be my first (cartier) platinum ring.

Just a simple Barber dime but I have been looking for this thing since the day I took up this hobby.
I have found a Barber quarter, a seated dime, a whole bunch of other great coins but never a Barber dime.
This year I finally came across one.

A 100 year old coin spill......and a Seated Quarter close behind those 2 would be this 30 gram Gorham sterling spoon and this half dollar sized vintage sterling pin

I have 2, one is my favorite relic and one my favorite coin of 2018. The shoe buckle was made by Benjamin Hurd sometime in the 1760's :wow: this guy is mentioned in the same sentences as Paul Revere as being one of the most successful silversmiths in Boston at the time. Also, my first 2 reale. That coin is still the only coin to come from this field in about 50 hours hunting time. Hope you enjoy, good luck and happy hunting!

Too many great "firsts" for me...my first silver, my first ring, my first stander, my first barber.....but I think that mine would be either the creepy tiki, the giant's ring, or the silver child's fork.....but the year isn't over yet and I have my Nox 800 coming tomorrow :)

I'm sorry, I could only narrow it down to three (all firsts):

Union Civil War Buckle
1600's French fur trader ring
Copper culture native American spear point

As far as coins, I could only narrow it down to two (both firsts after 8 years):

1862 Fatty injun
Flying Eagle

No way for me to decide on these, sorry
All found within 20 miles of my home:D

I dug my first gold ring this year. Then I managed to find another one. Even a third one after that! I'm also now over 50 silver coins, which I love finding. Somehow, though, my favorite find of this year(so far) is this little wallet size Fire Dept Badge from the town I live in.
