Reminded me of the grocery stores in the 50's and 60's.

Compare the prices to today and also notice that back then cashiers actually had to read the prices and punch it into the cash register. Also cash was likely the norm, don't think credit cards for grocery stores was even an option yet

(Edit to add: just noticed the ad below is a 1971 ad, 50's and 60's prices were likely even lower)

If adjusted for inflation, some of those prices from 1971 are actually higher than they are today!

I was wondering if even when adjusted for inflation if the purchasing power has decreased from times past and I found this web site -

http://www.buyupside.com/calculators/purchasepowerjan08.htm

from the above link -

"So the 2007 salary, when converted to 1970 dollars, has 33.597 percent less (($37,426.09 - $50,000) / $50,000) purchasing power than you had in 1970 with the $50,000 income."

......regardless, it was neat to remember as a kid buying a candy bar for 5 cents, a hamburger for 15 cents and a soda for a dime

Gary, The Safeway cashier, to me is the biggest change. Now she would have a nose ring, a pin in her lip and Chinese tattoo writing up her neck!
