Don't the Ipads have a sent or outgoing box for texts? My sis-in-law says her's doesn't. Seems wrong.

Not for texts. An Iphone text message is actually an Imessage and is logged by contact.

If you go into "messages", and then choose a contact, you will see all the text messages between you and that contact.

agreed.
and you can also go to your settings for text messages and set it for how many messages you want it to hold in it's memory. my phone can be set for between 200 and 5 thousand messages per contact. after that number is reached, it'll start deleting/replacing the oldest messages.
