How to use an XLT (in a nutshell)

1. Assemble the detector

2. Install batteries - (in right directions)

3. Charge the batteries or put in double AA's

4. Turn it on - a screen will appear telling you the battery life left

5. Then the last screen that appears is the MAIN MENU screen - Click ENTER

6. The preset program COINS will appear Click ENTER

7. Then you will be prompted to ground balance the detector, so raise the coil in the air to waist height and click ENTER

8. Then lower the coil to the ground and press ENTER

9. Now you are ready to go start swinging. You are looking for a solid, repeatable signal, and this COIN MODE is the highest discrimination and best to start with while you are learning.

The screen will give you some idea of what this solid repeatable signal is.

Our first detector was an XLT and we wound up digging any kind of beep because we wanted to know what it was. Doing this causes what they call "Beginners Luck." After you get accustomed to detecting you tend not to dig everything, so you lose your beginner's luck.

We wound up switching to the Relic mode and digging everything according to the Bar Graph, because we got tired of the Screen symbols being wrong.
