A couple of weekends ago, I hunted a friend's backyard in the pouring rain. I didn't find anything that great, but I did find about 4 of these diamond-shaped steel pieces. They were found all over the backyard - not in one spot, and I am sure there are more out there. They are each stamped with "M&M" which is a large sheet metal manufacturer: http://www.mmmfg.com/default.aspx

I just have no idea what they are for. Does anyone know? :?:

Here's a photo of the undersides. They do have little cleats like they were hammered onto something. Any ideas what? Maybe they came on the packaging of something?

When sheet metal is shipped, it is often banded on a pallet. Sometimes wood
is used to protect the edges of the sheet metal, by putting it between the
metal and the banding. These cleats may be for attaching to the wood or
the banding. Check the distance between the prongs, if they're 1/2" or 5/8",
that's probably what they are..
