Canteen cap or bottle stopper?

When I saw this in the bottom of the hole, I thought it was another light bulb :mad:

Then I pulled it out and saw a handle, what the heck?
Through some research on the forum, I found two similar, but not exact items.
I can make out the MAR 27, 1906 on it, but not much else.
Thoughts?

Flip through the pics..this looks like yours to me.

I guess that Patent is for the stopper and could have been used on various hot water bottles.
