I truly love hunting curb strips.

A few days ago I was hunting a curb strip in an older area of town and found a really nice large silver ring. Then I found what initially appeared to be a piece of trash metal but closer examination showed it’s actually a railroad conductor’s hat badge (circa 1900). At that time all railroad employees were required to wear a hat with a badge that identified their job. And before airplanes the term Air Line meant the shortest distance between 2 points.

Two days later I went back to the same area. This time I found a sterling silver belt buckle. It’s stamped with the number 175 but I can’t find any meaning for that label.

Awesome finds there! I believe your buckle is made by the company hickock. Not positive, just a guess based on similar one's I have found and have seen posted here. Most seem to be plated, glad yours is solid, congrats!

Nice finds!

Maybe 175 refers to the size. Would it fit a 1.75 cm width belt?

Thanks. It DOES look a great deal like Hickok buckles as you stated. The only difference I see is that all of the Hickok buckles have the company name prominently stamped inside of it while this doesn’t but everything else including the stamping of sterling seems identical. Interesting.

Yesterday I hunted 2 blocks away from where I found these and found a ‘46, ‘57 and ‘58 wheats and a ‘23 Merc and a ‘36 Walker.

Congrats! I am jealous. Where I live in North Atlanta, curb strips from 1980 are about as old as you can get with two exceptions.

In front of the older homes in smaller towns swallowed up by suburban growth these old homes with older curb strips eg late 1800's are gentrified (bought by new wealthy new owners) and the lady of the house is always 100% positive they own the curb strips and will be on you like a yellow jacket.

The other older areas of south, east and west Atlanta are somewhat rather populated by young punks would whack you an take your detector just for fun.

So I don't even try to hunt older curb strips unless I have a permission from the home owner.
