Today I went out with Dave and we went to a spot his dad told us about. It is now a city park and a city hall (VERY SMALL). It had some old slave houses on it and surrounded by cotton fields. We started at the tot lot and found much of nothing. Then it was getting hot in the sun so I went towards the back of the city hall against the tree line. After a few junk targets I got a surface double beep reading 80 thought well at least it is a copper. Looked down and saw a big copper  well it looked liked a round something. Picked it up and knew it was a coin due to size and weight. Cleaned it with a bit of water and all I could see is QUE and on the bottom 1894 :shock:.
Well when we got back to Dave's dad's place I got some olive oil and rubbed it a little. I could see a big 2 in the center. Well after a search found out it was a 2 cent piece from Haiti. My guess is that is was a slaves coin brought over from Haiti.

Here are some pics of it and one we found on ebay.

Guess I am going to have to shorten my stories.

Well it is soaking in olive oil. Hope it cleans up better.

Can't wait to find something this old.

1894 was a recession year here in the states. If economic conditions were similar in Haiti, that might be a somewhat valuable date! Nice find.

A rather unique piece...and to have a good idea how it traveled here is priceless!

Yeah it is very neat to be able to trace its path. The way we think is about the only way that fits due to location. It is neat that the erosion keep it on the surface also.
