This button was from a farm field ive been digging and all finds are late 1800s to very early 1900s. The button has no backmarks and the front appears to be a construction scene with a crane lifting a load and a building to the left. Two birds on either side of the lifting cable. I think its hand engraved.
I was thinking maybe its a union symbol? Iron worker? I know the cities went high at the turn of the century during the industrial revolution and roaring 20s. Im 45 mins out from Boston. Any help would be great.

I would say that dates in the very beginning of the Industrial Revolution. (1840s) Very cool. Much more interesting than one of the common designed buttons.

Were there tower cranes like that, that long ago? I thought that was a more modern crane design.

Yeah I thought that to butthey had huge cranes forever. Ran of animals or humans then steam in the early 1800s. I was thinking I live near the Portsmouth naval shipyard maybe its got tis to that. I definitely think it wad hand engraved. I just wad thinking it might be a foremans or union symbol

It might be an old water well and primitive "crane" to lower bucket in the well. You still can find it today in some Siberian villages. They call them "crane" after bird. This way it makes it more rural and explain the birds. And is more age appropriate. :)
