Go to Harbor Freight and get a Cen Tech for $20 (or less with a coupon) until you can afford better.

Thanks for the info, however I did break down and grab a Garrett pro pointer. I figured it would pay off in the long run.

I got the HF one to start with too and then moved up to Garrett PP. That is all I use now and keep the HF one as a spare

I was putting together a 2nd MD kit and didn't want to spend $125 on a 2nd propointer. I got a used Bounty Hunter II for $30 on eBay. Then I had to spend $10 + $10 shipping for a case with a belt clip. I wouldn't recommend this pointer. You can have vibrate or sound but not both at the same time. It's not at all water resistant. And you have to hold the button to use it.
