I found at least 25 of these today, any ideas? The property was once a poultry farm. Wondering if it has something to do with that? The tone sounded similar to a modern penny or nickel.

Looks to me like some sort of bracket. One that would go on the corner of adjoining walls or something. Doesn't look very old either.

I had one hen the pecked and ripped feathers out of the rest. I put that hen in a small holding cage away from the flock for one month. During that time the flock established a new pecking order. When the mean hen was released back into the flock the problem was solved.
 
That is so weird. How do you get it on??I don't see any bird being cooperative enough to allow you to just slip it on.
