We had them here last week. Wondering if some of you beach regulars like hunting these extra-high tides. I had not heard of them before, but it seems they are often associated with erosion.

The king tides are known for the highs but also have negative lows. Erosion will still depend on the size, direction, and timing of the swell and wind. Storms help too.

The lows really change where the waves cure and can cut deeper out there. Gets you out to spots between sand bars that you may not get to very often. They also move targets off the beach and can pile them up near the shore line. Rad1er5 said it pretty well thou....... you get them from the wrong direction and everything disappears.

old-bill, ra1der5 is right: King tides (with their corresponding super lows) don't do any good, unless they're accompanied by rough seas/swells.

Oh sure, anything's possible. There's chances at target pockets on ANY day of the year, at any beach. But the solo fact of extreme highs/lows is not going to produce. If the beach is sterile (lacking erosion and targets), the only thing that super minus tides do, is give you LOTS more beach area to walk around in , and find nothing in :)
