First Buttons...Forged Hatchet

Although I don't think these buttons are REALLY old they are the first that I have found and made for exciting digging for a few minutes! The amazing part was where they were found. I was walking and swinging my detector thru a 170 acre woodlot on my grandfathers farm and these buttons and this hatchet were the only signals I hit within probably a half mile square! Can anyone help with the age of this hatchet? It appears that its a forged piece.

Very nice! Someone apparently dropped their coat at one time and forgot to pick it up at the end of the day......

A quick search shows they've been in production from 1902-Present, most likely WWII time period for yours. But, I am not by any means an expert, I just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night......
