Symbol on a Ring

Can anyone tell me what the symbol / design on this ring means? I would guess it's an Asian character of some sort but that's just a shot in the dark.

On an unrelated note, this is the first ring I've dug with a .925 mark on the OUTSIDE of the band.

It looks like a Chai to me which means life in Hebrew. You can use it like an Italian would use "salute" as a drink toast. "la Chaim" (To Life!)
