Help with Brass Piece Please

I found this piece at an 1860s home adjacent to CW Union Camp where many relics have been found. Any info greatly appreciated.

Merc for size reference.

Looks as though there was something (cable?) which wore into both ends. Just going to be a WAG, but possible a "stop" for something like a winch, maybe marine?

Those have been posted here before, if I remember they connect linkage inside a well pump?

Stunmi is correct, its a link from a water well chainpump.
