If you dont mind digging up clad and kids jewelry then totlots are great all winter.The shredded bark and pea gravel wont freeze allowing detecting all year long.I usually hit at least 30 coins and 1 or 2 pieces of jewelry per school.We have 30 elementary schools in my town so every weekend I can go detecting as long as I bundle up good.

Sometimes it's not worth digging frozen ground. Too much work.
