I never knew a Cannon ball was dangerous by itself? The interesting part is they had those there for three years.... Then all of a sudden they become a threat?

Wow.. does this mean we can't go bowling either??? it is a lead ball for crying out loud. it is like some one having a bullet. not a round but just the bullet and no gun. are they still carring a deadly weapon.

Give someone a badge and a fur coat, and they will become a grizzly bear.

They made some cannon balls that were hollow and filled with powder and would explode after they were shot and hit something . There was a story posted here a couple years ago where a guy was cleaning some and one exploded and killed him. This guy was pro at cleaning cannon balls and made a mistake and thought he had all the powder out of them and it cost him his life.

He was dis-arming the cannon ball when it went off. The way they are dis-armed is not an easy or safe thing to do nor is it excedingly dangerous if done right. You have to drill a hole in the projectile and flush the powder from it. But it should be done with a remote drill press while the projectile is in a bucket of water to keep it from getting to hot and igniting the powder. I have never done it but was told how by a guy that does do it. Black powder when wet is not dangerous but once it dries out it's just as bad or worse than when it was loaded 150 years ago...d2
