Striper fishing has been cutting into my detecting time the past couple of weeks but I managed to pull this merc this weekend. I really like the rusty looking crust on it. Think I will let it be and not try to clean it up. Not that I clean most beach silvers anyway, I love that salty patina!

I also saw my first open beach parking lot in a long time this weekend. Things are looking up!

Never seen one like that before. Cool.

I have had silver coins next to iron ..think I still have them..they looked similar but were fully covered if I remember correct. Even had a gold ring come up from the same area..though it was junk..

My only Spanish coin has a crust just like your Merc..... I tried everything and nothing worked. CLR did clean some but that also took the details......

I sometimes wonder on the effects of coins that have been on some level for years and due to a change in conditions the coins then move to another level and then a different dynamic starts to act on the coin.

All interesting thoughts. Found another just like it from the same area a few days later. The other silvers I have found on that beach in the past are the normal beach toasted black color.
