Common issue with many products, cracks in those areas.
Main cause is over tightening, folks just have a tendency to do over tighten everything.
In the case of plastics they will crack from the stress. Some plastics are more prone to cracking than others. The chemical composition of the plastic has a lot to do with it. If the batch mix was off during manufacture, molding or the wrong type of plastic being used would cause failure in the final product during service.
