I found this old hatchet head today at an old homestead. Would this be a mid 1800's?

I found a nearly identical hatchet head last weekend! In my research online, it seems that this design didn't change much for a long time. Can you clean it up to see if there is a makers mark on the circle part? I'll be eager to see if anyone is able to weigh in on your post!

How cool is that, that you guys both found the same style ax so close together!?! Clean those babies up!

I should know this but I don't at the moment. I want to say a plumb carpenters hatchet but I have to think on it. Maybe they call it a half hatchet ?

Plumb would be the brand name. This style of hatchet was/is used by roofers to split cedar shakes. The slot was for pulling nails.

I can't remember everything anymore but Plumb, Philadelphia tool company and Champion or a actual black smith made hatchet has the rounded handle area top type hatchets, Champion is stamped big, can't miss it plumb, philadelphia not so big in numbers but Plumb, Champion is the most common.
