found this navy button in local field foun similer but none with 5 point stars:?
small dime size cuff button

In Albert's book, on page 93, there is an example of a five pointed star. However the backmark is not the same as yours. Than on page 96, number 69 to 71 are five pointed stars. But again, they don't have your backmark. Tice's book doesn't have much on that particular button. Without a more descriptive backmark, it's almost impossible to tell who made the button, but it still stands as an excellent find, in very good condition.
 
a clear picture of the button back may help. as it is blurred, I can still see what appears to be an M (or upside down W) under the T in gilt, but cannot make out any other letters.
 
Sweet find, I have a couple early navy buttons and they are always cool to find! Early 1800s, but I couldn't find an exact match on my link.
