Maybe from a canteen? The hole in the top would have been the rivet where the chain would have attached so you didn't lose the cap. Obviously didn't work... :laughing:

What does the inside/bottom look like? Is it threaded? It almost looks like it might have been a hub lock.

No idea about this one...
