One town over from where I live is the town of Lockport, IL.
In the early 1900's a trolley company developed Dellwood Park in Lockport
in an effort to boost ridership from Chicago to the South West suburbs.

This video that someone posted on youtube is what the park looked like back then, and now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8hh-gQIfDA

There is still a shallow creek that runs through the park, but there is no longer a lake for rowing. A relic of the old boat house is all that remains from
the 1900's construction.

In fact from the old photos in the video, I can't place where some of the photos were taken in the park as it exists today.

While hunting in a part of the park I found what looks like a civil war cuff button. It is most likely from one of the Civil War reinactments that is held there every year, but who knows.

I acutally found this about a month ago, but forgot that I had taken a photo of the button. It has been much too hot to go hunt the past few days.

The back of the button is real rusty. I can't make out any markings.

Vest or maybe a cap button?

Could it be a Federal kepi (cap) button? They had that size and style button on the leather strap above the visor, one on each side of the cap.

To the best of my knowledge it is owned
by the Lockport park district. There is a sign
that says no metal detecting near where the
boat house ruins are, so I stay away from them.

The tree police have seen me detecting there
on more than one occasion and haven't said
anything so I assume that it is ok.
