Dirt Fishing Contest Points System

Some one mentioned doing the clad for the Green horns like this:

Add 5 pts for items in Vet list (same)
Junk Jewelry = 5 pts (same)
Clad Coins For Greenhorns
Quarters = 1/4 pts(Takes 4 to make a point)
Dimes = 1/6 pts(takes 6 to make a point)
Nickels = 1/8 pts(takes 8 to make a point)
Pennies = 1/10 pts(takes 10 to make a point)
Pull Tabs = 1/10 pts(takes 10 to make a point)

What does everyone think of this? For the scorers, it makes it more complicating.

I dont wanna divide up all the clad. Clad is clad to me. But all these 6,8,12 numbers are really gonna annoy me, if they were all intervals of 5 then it would be 100x easier.

Then again its your contest, and I'll go by your rules. I'll probably memorize the scoring anyways. Forget about it.

thats what we wanna hear! does anyone else feel this way? dont be shy to speak up, you wont hurt any feelings. if someone proposes and idea we need to hear from others whether they like it or not.

I added tokens. I was not sure a good way to do it in intervals of 5 with out distorting the rarity/ points ratio (If you know what I mean) LOL!

go with the fractional scoring it should make it nip and tuck down to the wire, hopefully for a close finish.

Alternate scoring proposed changes, taking into account higher point values for lower reading coins, higher point values for those coin that are found less frequently. Lower point values for common coins such as wheats and Jefferson nickels which are everyday finds.

Just a suggestion on the lower reading coins, at one point I thought I'd seen something about the importance of digging all signals. Case in point a nickle 3 cent piece reads about an 8 on the White's MXT, which is foil on a low end Bounty Hunter. A shield nickel reads about a 14 on the MXT, which is still below the V.D.I. reading for a LIberty nickle or Buffalo, which both read below a Jefferson nickle. Food for thought. ;)

The problem I see with this, is that the highest point coins are mainly available on the east coast.

I don't know, but I'm starting to think that it may be easier just to assign a value to a silver coin from a certain time period,say 1870 and below 10 points, 1871-1900 5 points--you get the idea. It may make it more fair and easier for scoring??????

I like this! I will go through the one I created and do some alterations going by this one.

Thanks!

Here is another scenario. Team,s total face value in dollars and cents. Any gold add 10, any silver, add 5 (Jewelry). Any silver coin, add 5. A wheatie add 1. all pulltabs, 1 point. Fairest way to do it IMHO, or some similar scenario. Thoughts?...................

That does seem to be fair.

I really see no way of trying to correct the West coast-east coast problem with out making it very confusing. I understand your concerns, but it is a very confusing problem.

We can make it fair, at least I think we can.
The only problem that the scoring system has is that it weighs in the favor of finding the very old coins that were used primarily in the far eastern section of the country. I think it can easily be overcome by assigning a value for any coin below 1900, then another value for maybe 1920 and below, then 1964 and below--something like that. Plus, let clad count for vets, at maybe half the points of a greenhorn's, and maybe not allow zinc pennies for a vet.

I'm good with whatever rules are finalized...we're all playing by the same. I was concerned that I'd be pulling my partner down because there are fewer higher point coins on the left coast, but for the first contest it seems okay as it is (to me).

I'll put a spreadsheet together when the point system is finalized and can send it to the scorekeepers...weekly?

This is gonna be fun...no matter who wins!!!! Thanks everyone.

That is a massive list........Half that stuff wont ever be found in California......
I see no Spanish Reale ?? In Cal. On the oldest possible sites a spanish reale is more common then any Bust coinage .........
