Another great day at the beach today, it's starting to warm up over here now .. .. temp today was 39°C or 102.2°F.
Scored coins, sinkers, junk and this 375 (9ct) gold ring
It was so encrusted with the green verdigris that I was convinced it would soon be broken into pieces! After a couple of soaks in CLR and a bit of polishing it now looks fine to me.

:dingding: That 9K stuffs sure gets grungy. Congrats!

Nice little catch, it all counts!
39 celcius, yup pretty warm. The worst temp i saw this summer here was 47 C...

Thats another nice find Meggie old top!! I've learned so much from following you and Norm Garnush..."The Golden Oldie"...Nice!:thumbsup:

Does it get grungy because of the other type of metal in the alloy? Silver or copper? Thanks

The green verdigris is actually the copper leaching out of the low carat ring.In this case the ring is only .375 of gold.Once sufficient copper has leached out the ring will lose it's body (strength) and just collapse.

That explains something that happened to me. Found a light gold ring with same verdigris. In attempting to remove it, I broke it when using metal polish. Seemed to break too easily. Now it Makes sense. Thank you!

I agree with all above, amazing clean up! I have some bad looking gold rings come out of the surf but nothing like the 2 in this post.

Way to go meggie cleaning up that ugly ring. Well, how ugly can a gold ring get? I am going to Lowe's hardware store tomorrow morning to buy some CLR. I have a rusty gate I need to paint, so the CLR will come in handy.
I see you've found 33 gold rings this year, wow, pretty good.
HH everyone
