There is an old black church in Fernandina Beach that I have permission to hunt. It has yielded some very fine mid-1800s silver coins.

Went back today and found a very crusty penny and what appeared to be a nickel. When I got home I started scraping both with a wooden toothpick.

The nickel is a token but there is no firm name associated with it. Anybody have any idea what it might be, use or age?

The penny was a real surprise. I was expecting a memorial or wheat but I am 99% certain it’s a Flying Eagle cent. I can see the reeding along the rim, the word United and 18 for the date. I stopped cleaning it in the hopes of preserving it as best as possible. This is a real bucket list coin for me.

Any suggestions?

I've seen those tokens used for Car Washes too. I like finding them.

Are you sure that's not a dime? I don't think flying Eagle cents have a reeded edge.

EDIT: I realize what you are saying. Not a reeded edge, but the denticles around the rim. That's an Indian Head Cent. I can see the arrows like Ice Scratcher said. Great find.

Injun, 1860 or later..

I can make out the arrows and oak wreath...

Still a cool old injun...

As already stated, an Indian cent not the Flying Eagle, the wreath is wrong for the FE, the FE has more of a "harvest" wreath while yours has the classic "oak" laurel wreath. Still a nice coin, and it shows great detail for what you can see.
