Default Brass piece

Was wondering what this thing might be. Found it near some railroad tracks not sure if that's a help. Anyway it has an adjustment screw on the bottom which is a hex bit or Allen key.

Yep thanks for the such a quick answer. And it seems like you're right on the money. If it's not something obvious I'm generally pretty bad about id'ing things. Thanks for the help.

Thank you all. Hey it's not a big deal but it's brass or bronze so it'll add up when I take a bucketful in for scrap. The way my detecting has been going lately it was a decent find. HH all..
