Hello everyone. I have a Garrett GTAx 1000 that I bought new back in the mid 90's. It's spent the last 12 years or so in the closet. I pulled it out the other day and used it for a couple of hours. I noticed that if I swung it too quickly it would sound a tone. If I wiggled the cord from the coil it sounded a tone. Could storing it for so long have caused something to mess up on it?

Thanks
Mark

maybe but my gtax 550 did the same thing but if you wrapped the cable around the shaft it would fix it

That's what's puzzling me. I have it wrapped around the shaft and it's doing it. I have a smaller search coil I'm going to put on it and see if it still does it. :?:

Sounds like a short in the cable or a loose wire in the coil. Trying the other coil should help figure it out. If it still does it focus on the connection point at the control box. GL
