Hey guys! I may have lead you from my other thread of metal detecting. Well, I made a different thread because just walking around my spot, found 5 bottle dumps. Right now I'm working on one by a field or thorns. I wish to get out more when it turns winter since there's no bugs :D. Anyways, I'm going to post my bottles I find there. Here's a description of all 5 bottle dumps:
#1: Bottle dump from collected trash of 4 cabins people in the country club are staying at. Trash goes down about a foot, pretty small, broken bottles everywhere, and surrounded by thorns.
#2 Between and behind 2 foundations for houses. From some old maps, these houses were demolished in 1930. Don't know the depth of the bottles yet, right by huge rocks, huge tree fallen on it.
#3 One of the best ones, I haven't hunted this one yet but it was trash from a rich country club. The country club is still there!! It's from the mid-1800's. This place..the history...it's so amazing!!! The records in the buildings found says: Ulysses S. Grant was a guest, JFK, and some other presidents.
#4 Right beside a wagon trail has some broken blob tops. Don't know much about it but once I start on it I'll tell more about it.
Anyways here's the pictures:

Some nice ceramic cosmetic jars! Don't know much about them other than ones a "Arden" and another is a "Dorothy Gray"

My FAVORITE find ever bottle hunting!! Me, a coca cola bottle lover got this in a field of at least 20 broken coca cola bottles which put a tear in my eye!
Anyways this town I've never even heard of which makes me sad because there were about 15 bottles produced in my home town or towns I've been to!

Nice

1 blue- noxzema cream bottle
2 green - looks like a Sqibb bottle
3 white - milk glass, old cold cream jars
4 clear discs - canning lids to old canning jars
5 coca cola bottle - called a hobble skirt, shaped like a women's figure. The ones with towns embossed on the bottom are worth a little more depending where they are from

Nice finds. Looks like some of the jars are from the 40's

Thanks Fred! I'm relatively new with bottles. Would have never known what these bottles were if it wasn't for you guys on the forums! I may be going back up tomorrow if I'm not busy.

Great jars and bottles! The blue and green bottle/jar are so vibrant. Are there any marks, numbers or initials on the bottom of them? It would help with knowing the maker and possibly narrow down the era. Those are amazingly clean, how deep were they?

Thanks, the large white jar is a "Dorothy Gray" facial cream jar. The other jars just have random marking on the bottom. Most of them were around 3 inches deep. This soil is densely packed on top with leaves and mud so nothing is getting to them. I by pure luck found that Coca Cola bottle poking out a little on the surface and luckily nothing broke it. I cleaned em up with water and a towel. After I'm done with this one I should be heading around to the other side on the mountain to check out the dump behind the country club.
Hope this helped,
-MSS

Wow today was a great day at the dumps! Got some great finds today. I couldn't get anymore than this today because I got there at 5 and stayed until it got dark. Today's mission was to uncover the surface bottles and dirt. What I mean is brush off the leaves and mud from above the dirt. While uncovering the dirt I couldn't believe what I found on the surface!! It's a Milk of Magnesia!! I'm sure not many of you are excited about this but it was my first time finding one!

After I uncovered this dirt I started digging towards the thorns which are the main source of the bottles. After having to dig under a log for about 30 mins I found this nice looking (serving?) cup.

After awhile I found another white cup inside an old tin can that, when I grabbed it, disintegrated.

Then I found a nice blue jar at around 7.

Also I keep gathering up all of these old glass jar lids. Today I took 4 from the ground.

For me the coca cola and Milk of Magnesia are some of my favorites. I love the cobalt blue, the embossing, and it's a fancy pepto haha. I love finding common bottles a lot I have a soft spot for! Like the coca cola bottles, they're common and the milk of magnesia is common I love those! Obviously there are rare variants of these bottles worth a lot but the common ones are fun to keep and display!

The clear serving

The clear serving container is called a cruet . It was made for holding olive oil. They come in many colors. I put my cobalt blue ,green, etc. colored glass in my window on a shelf I made. It looks like a stained glass window when the sun shines through. Nice stuff, hope theres more for ya.

Thanks! Haha I keep my favorite bottles on a shelf with a light above it so you can see the true colors.

How are you cleaning your bottles? They sure are purdy.

Sorry for the late response. When I get home I wash them off with water, then start to use a baby bottle cleaner. I found these at Krogers and they work well for not scratching the bottles at all. Then I keep washing them off inside and out. Once I'm done I rub em off with a rag and Voila good as new! :D

Awesome. I'll try that. Thanks!

Went back today for 2 hours. Starting to hit the "rust layer" the dumps goin deeper as I go into the area with the thorns. Obviously the dump is from the 40's on the surface but I'm guessing it gets older hopefully as it goes deeper. Anyways today I got 3 keepers and a marble I lost somewhere in the dirt.
Here's some pics.
Here's a 2 and 3 oz Castor Oil from the Frank Tea & Spice Company

That first one looks like a Vicks Vapo Rub jar. Noxema jars were flatter I thought ?

I sometimes rub a very slight amount of vaseline on the outside of bottles - takes away the streaky residue that didn't come off. Steve in so az

Thank you guys I'll check the last two medicines in a book if I can find it. I might want to try that Vaseline trick too. Also, bottom of the jar and it's most likely not a Vicks it says:
Belmont Labs Inc. Phila. PA.

Hope you guys have any info on any of these any prices or such would also be appreciated. Today i spent an hour walking around looking. I found another bottle dump that has broken coca colas everywhere that almost made me have a full on tear fest! A lot of these bottles are 60's and 70's scattered everywhere so I'm not sure if I should dig there. I should look around some more, I truly want an 1800's bottle dump to be at my disposal!! 1 blob top or embossing or anything would be great! Anyways aain any dates, information, or price would be great!

Just asking, at the western end of the dump looks like it's getting older but isn't as deep as seen by the "Christmas" Coca Cola bottle that's broken other than the other coke bottle I got from the 40's. On the other hand, the end pf the dump I'm on is deeper but still in the 40's. What do you guys think? The other dump I found has tons of 60's and 70's bottles. Where do you guys think I should concentrate on? :?:
