So here begins a journey. I picked up an old Excalibur 1000 on ebay. I knew it was in pretty poor condition and figured since I have some time and resources I would hot rod it and see what I come up with. My only goal is a modded, functional and reliable machine. it will also be personalized for me so some of the parts will be personal choice and there will be some things I made that I could have purchased for less. There will be other parts that I could have gone with a cheaper part. Most of the things I will do are not new and a shout out goes to OBN for his dedication and efforts in this area with the Excalibur line. I am lucky enough to have a machine shop in my garage so custom things happen very easily. The tough part is waiting for supplies to show up. So without dragging this out any longer lets get started.

I started out with something easy since I am awaiting parts to finish end caps as well install a new wire on the coil. I built a dive shaft from carbon fiber, I installed a compass as I really like the idea after seeing Digging rings machine on Youtube. I also went with a piezo switch for the PP mod. Turns out with a little machining the switch fits perfectly in a Hurst shifter handle and since I like cars too its a perfect selection. anyway here is the dive shaft mocked up. If you think it looks a bit long you would be right. I am 6'6" tall and have long arms so it is built to fit my reach. The nice thing is I had enough carbon fiber left to make along extension for hunting in the dry as well.

Next up is the housing. When I disassembled the housing I noticed the upper o-ring seal land was cracked on the pinpoint/discrimination port on the housing. Since I am putting a PP button on the machine I elected to eliminate the PP/disc. port and seal it with epoxy. it will also get a cap sealed with aquaseal. I also made new end cap blanks which are awaiting the new parts to show up. I will be putting IP68 connectors at both ends. the front cap will have an IP68 for the coil change and a stress gland for the battery. The rear cap will have dual IP68 connectors. one for headphones and one for PP. I will be making end caps for my other Excals as well so all are interchangeable between each other, headphones and coils. any way. that's all for now. as parts show up and assembly happens I will add to this. At the end of the build I will list all parts used as well parts made. I will not list costs as some are ridiculous but hey whats life without ridiculous sometimes. A friend of mine has a saying and I do laugh when he says it. "if it don't cost extra I don't want it" lol

Looks great. Awesome work man. You and old beechnut should get together. Together you two united could turn out some sweet machines.

Looks good so far those mods will make your machine a top level machine. OBN is a great guy his ideas have definitely made it easier for other people to do these mods. Are you making your own headphones or using the koss headphones.

I will be making my own headphones. I am going the piezo route. I have the headset just waiting on the rest.

I'm a car nut and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Hurst shifter!

Practice up, record how long it takes to do each task and then you will know how much to charge for the waiting list of people that will ask you to fix/mod their machines. :D

I like the Hurst shifter handle too.. I have an old aluminum one T, I will eventually mount it on a tap handle in my bar...

Good luck with the build!!

I put this on very short hold. Tired of running my mill the old school way so ordered a DRO kit for it. Once it comes in and I get it installed I will continue. should have done this long ago but I am stubborn. Will pay for itselfin shorter setup times.
