So I had an idea sitting here this morning sipping my joe.
Copper would make a good soft probe, but, you say it will bend!
I also flintknap, I make a copper flaking tool, now the trick is to make the copper wire not bend. here is the trick.
Get a 2 foot length of ground wire, just like whats on the side of your house, chuck one end into your drill, put the other end into a vise and spin. The spinning "work hardens" the copper and makes it stronger. I have a piece in the garage and when I finish the coffee I'm going to give it a try, I think for a 2 or 3" probe it may work out, I'll let ya know.
