What to use other than scoop?

I think for $12 - $15, I would really consider going with the plastic hand scoop, even if I was only going to use it once (especially if I was only going to use it just once).

This undertaking task that you are about to begin is not going to be worth the time, the tools, nor the effort. You're talking about drilling numerous 1/2" to 5/8" holes, on a round surface. This would be a real "bear" of a job, if you were working on flat metal. Round is going to be extremely difficult.
