Caption says something "Makes German Mines Harmless". Surely passing that over didn't neutralize them?

Only seemed to work on metal "land mines". Not much on coin size objects.

yeah i know military had metal detectors for a very long time before they been selling to people..

Less chance of a booby trapped mine blowing up in your face. In the National Guard, we practiced laying out a minefield with dummy mines and flattened cans. When they brought out the mine detector to find them, it wasn't working. Those deactivated mines (anti-tank and anti-personnel mines) are still there. I went to look for them once and the weeds were ten feet high.

I wonder if after thinking they'd detected a mine and carefully digging for it, they sometimes only found a can or foil, and were disappointed?
