I'm trying to decide what detector to go with for detecting the beach while snorkeling. I also will use it as a backup detector in non-trashy dry dirt.

I can't make up my mind which to go with. Does the salt water mode on the Tiger Shark make a difference? I do like the modular head unit on the Seahunter though.

I had a seahunter,it was good, I just cant take digging bottle tops and iron. I hear the sand shark falses on black sand.

Everything I have read on here from other more knowledgeable folks over the years is that the Tiger is substandard in salt environments. Seahunter wins here. However, it would probably be much better in the "non-trashy dry dirt" environment than the Seahunter. I see salt areas and regular dirt as 2 different environments and neither of those excels in both. An Excal or CZ would be better.

Salt is the deal breaker for the Tiger Shark, as it is a single frequency VLF machine. Multi-Frequency machines and PI units work best in wet salt sand and in the surf.
