BB = bling, bling!

Found on a parkway about 2'' down and was buried vertical. Rang up as a dime.

The backside has a small 8, 0 and a very large 0. They should show up on the photos.

Perhaps a handle to turn an on/off valve on a tank or cylinder ?
Showed it to a building engineer and he said the metal (brass or bronze) was too soft to serve that purpose.

Actually, Bronze alloy is pretty hard(they made swords and tools out of Bronze before steel and still make statues out of it), compared to Brass or pure copper. Something that length might indeed be some type of valve shut off handle.

Might also be a specialized key.

A lot of times bronze is used in gas valves because it won't cause a friction spark like iron will.

Very good note TEX. Now that you mention it, I remember reading they used specialized bronze or brass tools when working with compressed gas because of exactly what you previously stated.

It was buried vertical? Off a parkway? Hmmm how about something off a sand or salt spreading truck, or semi?
