Hey all, we are starting to enjoy the wonderful weather that comes with a hint of spring in Washington. We actually had snow yesterday.... I had a couple of hours this morning to check out some older areas of town and worked a specific series of curbstrips that sat in front of early 1900s era homes. The first 1 1/2 hours I had only clad to show for my efforts but then started to get one Wheatie, then another, then another....THERE HAS TO BE SILVER AROUND HERE!
Crossed the street to an "end cap" and first target was a very worn 1911D Barber! FINALLY!
Started to grid pretty diligently and a few minutes later the 1917 Merc popped out. Good deal, not too long after those (and a bunch more Wheaties) I pulled the 1944 Australian Half Penny. Was digging a lot of dimes and not too many quarters. At the very end of my hunt I pulled out the 1944 20mm MK4 round that looks like it "cooked off" some how. The primer is not fired but the actual round destroyed the brass casing. Thing is twice the size of a .50 call round and double the length. Evidently it was used in Naval cannons.
Oh, the Dime Trifecta? While cleaning up at home I discovered a dirty dime that had a beautiful silver edge on the face of it, turned it on its side and I didn't see the clad sandwich..after a gentle cleaning, yup! a 1961S Rosie. My second Dime Trifecta in just under 2 months! Great hunt, beautiful day.
Total clad finds $3.19, 12 Wheaties (the oldest being 1917)...great pre-spring day!
On Monday I get to hunt a 1815 property in Tennessee!! Can't wait
HH and GL All!!!
