Default Why 200 posts to sell here ???

I've been on this forum for few years & thought I'd post couple neat items

For Sale ???? I only have about 150 posts and it says I Can't list anything

"FOR SALE" until I have 200 posts "?" What the heck is up with that ?

I'm just not a big poster of threads & don't understand why this is ?

You will find that the majority of the members here support the 200 post criteria. It may seem silly for someone like you that does have quite a few posts and has been here for a long time, but it helps improve the chances that sells will go well. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. 200 posts seems reasonable to me.

I'm in the same boat except I wanted to post a wanted item.....

I refuse to say hello to every new person just to get the numbers up.

That's exactly what a few people did to sell here and they did it quick.
Took them probably 20 minutes to a half hour, total.

That's cheating the system but it worked.

I'm new and would also like to post a couple of detectors for sell but I completely understand and agree with the rule. I was a moderator on a gun building site. We had a similar problem with spam and drop in sellers. We came up with the exact same solution. You do get some meaningless post but it also causes participation and gives other members a little bit of confidence when dealing with a blind sale.

Cheers,
Ken

I hear ya. I've been here 6 years and only have 141 posts,,,, well 142 now. Guess I could get my "Howdy's" and "Welcome's" ready to go and knock them out one weekend.

You have been on here a few years but you don't contribute so are you really on the forum. People want to buy stuff from people they know and recognize. Try contributing, commenting instead of looking and then before you know it you will be to 10,000 posts.

I wonder why the policy is 200 posts and 6 months.

Why not 100 posts and 1 year?

Just curious.

Like the Eagles said, it would take you twice as long to go half the distance.

This is the initial post in the thread Craig linked earlier.

Read them both as that may help.

It was felt, as I recall, that 200 was a reasonable number in a six mont period for a new member to get to be known by the other members.

The membership at the time helped us with the amount of posts and time... we feel its not too harsh.. 1 year would be a lot harsher than 6 months.. its pretty easy to come up with 200 posts.. and members will get to know who they are going to deal with at the same time..

As much as I hate to post this... its why the rules were enacted.

In 2014 we had a rash of scammers... I will not post all those threads but they are still open...

You don't have to say howdy to all the new folk...

Examples...

Wow, cool dig, I had one like that when I was a kid..

Dang, that's a lot of trash just for one Rosie..

Nice ring, similar to one I found last week..

Digging in cemeteries is only recommended at night so folks won't frown on the hobby..

Congrats on the gold!!

Post whatever, show you have a pulse and aren't a bot.

Sheesh
