Wondering how I should craft a perfect letter to let a historical society give me special permission for some very exclusive access to sites. Anyone try this? Got any special tips?

I reached out to my local historic society, it is located in a local house dating to the early 1800s. They did not seem interested in finding local relics, or at least not by MD means. I should say though that my local historic society is really just the 1 house and the president of the society has family ties to the house. They are rarely open, do not seem to have any historic literature or information. The president lives in a different town and it seems the society is really just there to keep the family house standing. maybe in your area the historical society has more interest in actual local history.
